We just about depart to our next destination – Hangzhou where we will have our LUNCH!
Before that, Royce decided he wanted to test out the thickness of the ICE Fountain where we saw kids walking on ICE which were initially freezing water that turned into ice.

Royce on ICE

Royce on ICE

We’re on our way to Hangzhou and whilst travelling on the bus we came across what appears to be a Ferris Wheel about the same size as the one in London except this is definitely a No No for us since we’re not sure how safe it is.

Ferris Wheel in Shanghai

Ferris Wheel in Shanghai

Just about half way through our journey, we stop at a rest area where we got some R&R time and got some fruits to ease the hunger away too. The baby mandarin oranges are one of the items we bought .. (see below) they are cheap! and much sought after in every part of China. Because of the weather, these fruits are extremely hard to find in other countries such as Malaysia and best of all, its sweet …. and delicious!

Mandarin Oranges - Minis

Mandarin Oranges - Minis

You know that when you’re on the bus travelling from one area to another, the tendency to stop and look for F.O.O.D is so hard not to miss out and being Malaysian Asians, it is almost impossible to avoid missing out on Food. So after some food snacking and some needed sleep, we have arrive in Hangzhou where we ate again .. and this time around its Lunch!

Arrived for LUNCH!

Arrived for LUNCH!

As you can see above, we were so hungry, tired and mostly HUNGRY! that we couldn’t wait …
Mum and Dad couldn’t wait either .. their faces are smiling =)

Priceless .. eating your CNY Lunch in China!

Now … for the Food =)

Hangzhou Specialties

Hangzhou Specialties

The food wasn’t all that great, but just being where we are and having celebrate CNY there was enough to make every taste fantastic. Although every part of China has their food specialities, I find that our taste buds can never really accept the food because of their ways of cooking it (like either too salty or bland)

Now for the moment we all were waiting for … Meat of The Day!

Chef Specialty

These small pots of meat in dark soya sauces are specially ordered in advanced.
They are well seasoned and cook to be enjoyed slowly…. *but* one can get rather thirsty after such a dish.

The person to enjoy the most amongst all of us is Royce..
He practically smiled all the time …. especially after meals =)

Happy Royce

Next Destination: Hengdian (The Movie City)

Hengdian is well knowned for its Movie Studios especially for the Film ”Curse of the Golden Flower”
and many other known movies and TVB Series.

After like a few hours on the bus .. we have arrived at Hengdian “Sun City”
IMG_3390 (Large)

Our stop will be at The Movie Studio where Chow Yun Fatt acted in for the film “Curse of the Golden Flower”

Every Building seen below – in the Amazing Replica version of The Forbidden City is exactly the same. The reason the City was build was because China did not allow the Real Forbidden City to be used for any filming so instead of filming in the actual city, they build another one. See below…

But before we eat .. its time to Pop some Crackers .. Loud ones!

IMG_3549 (Large)

In China, during the Chinese New Year, people from all parts of the country from the Rural to the City will use Firecrackers to symbolize the tradition and the festive seasons. It brings joy and families together at this time of year. The Chinese people will demonstrate different type of fireworks for the first 2-3 days. Some may asked ”How much does this cost?” Well the answer is really simple, it cost very little to them and don’t forget it is Made in China!

Food time ..

Time for some fresh mountain air and fireworks =)

Next Destination – Movie Studio # 2

Apparently this particular studio is what some say is the Chinese Version of Universal Studios minus the Rides..

IMG_3641 (Large)
IMG_3665 (Large)
IMG_3669 (Large)
IMG_3688 (Large)

Look at the time .. Wow!

We then went back to our Hotel for a much needed rest and the next day’s destination – Movie Studio # 3 -

This is where most of Wong Fei Hong’s movies were filmed – Once upon a Time in China (by Jet Li) See images ..
IMG_3698 (Large)
IMG_3756 (Large)

After some walking around the studio, we saw a stage area where actors and actreses were acting for all to see. Got some pics of the Chinese Characters as well.

IMG_3809 (Large)

and we’re all so tired … but wait! We ate dinner at a local chinese restaurant and headed back to hotel for our sleep as we were departing for Mt. Huangshan the next day.

While travelling on the highway, I managed to catch a glimpse of the new Honda Civic which is expected to launch in 2 months time in Malaysia.
IMG_3828 (Large)

As we were closer to Huangshan, we stop at a tourist spot which concentrates on Crystals. They mold crystal’s into very nice decorating items as well as for gifts.
IMG_3859 (Large)

IMG_3886 (Large)

I managed to catch a photoshot of this item as Photo shooting was Not Allowed within the premises.
They were afraid that people will adopt their ideas … =D

Off we proceeded to our destination…
Not too far away, we were very near our destination … and I shot this image whilst being on the bus going up the hillz to our Cable car ride.
IMG_3901 (Large)

and moments later, we reach the base point in which we needed to take a 15 min cable car ride to the middle section and from there we are expected to hike up to our hotel approximately 1.5KM’s
IMG_3905 (Large)
IMG_3924 (Large)

Shortly after the ride .. we reached the mid section and started our climb.
Oh boy .. I was in for another surprized! Up and Down Stairs .. very very steep stairz!
IMG_3931 (Large)

as we were climbing .. man there were rest areas but it wasn’t easy and stopping made things worst. First the air was thin, secondly .. we were all tired already from previous days, Thirdly .. we were not prepared! But somehow or rather .. we all made it! and found that it was very exciting and refreshing .. its like accomplishing something very great.
IMG_3946 (Large)

The view was superb .. its like viewing Grand Canyon in a Chinese Way. GC is another scenic area … and for me GC is more exciting then Mt. Huangshan.
IMG_3973 (Large)
IMG_3974 (Large)
Above is the Legendary Monkey who sat on the mountain. One of the biggest in its species…

And oh yea …. the river was frozen too. The temperature was way below…IMG_3980 (Large)

After all that climbing and walking .. we were so dead tired and it was time to give the camera a rest and amongst us all, only myself and 3 others of us decided to use the Spa to warm up and relax … but that’s another story =D

So next morning .. its 6.00am! I got up .. forgot the showers, left my room .. went and hike to catch the sunrize.
IMG_3993 (Large)

IMG_4005 (Large)
IMG_4008 (Large)
IMG_4013 (Large)

I could not catch the Sun rising .. but the sight was still good and I was happy!
After the hike .. off I went for breakfast and changed for the big Hike of the Day!

Destination: Lions Peak
Distance from Hotel: 3Km Up and 3KM down (back to Hotel) the Hike has variable steps like up and down when you are climbing upwards due to the terrain and when you get back .. the steps are the same, up and down the mountain!
Time: we did all that in 3 hours…

NExt … Dinner

All that happen without the camera as we wanted to have less weight and not tire ourselves out by having extra weight.
I was using a DSLR which happens to be heavy!

The next 1 day in Shanghai was pretty casual .. and nothing much going for us. And the next day we were off to the Airport and back to Malaysia. Ohhh hot and Sunny!

IMG_4071 (Large)

Being a family member of MH and Malaysia Airlines, I must say that the services offered in China Airports by MH Staff were not satisfying to say the least. But overall .. it is definitely much better than the other airlines.

IMG_4131 (Large)

Our Flight MH 389 to Kuala Lumpur is expected to Depart in 1 hours and I had nothing much to do except – Shoot anything that interest me within the Airport. Photography can be either interesting or exciting .. for me that’s both! especially in the aviation side

IMG_4179 (Large)
(A340 Engine – Image shot at Low ISO)

IMG_4208 (Large)
(Boarding our flight – Royce takes the Lead..)

IMG_4223 (Large)

Our flight back to Kuala Lumpur was pretty quiet. The passenger load for MH 389 was extremely low. The total passengers were 187.

IMG_4228 (Large)

On a normal flight, you usually find yourself cramping with others in Economy Class. However this flight was so quiet and there were ample seats for one to take an entire row for a good nap!

IMG_4238 (Large)

Mum and Dad .. feeling happy to be going back home and so was I!

IMG_4239 (Large)

The Chinese Cabin Crew in the middle was very nice and pleasant.
She practically treated us like family and gave us very good service. This is definitely True Malaysian Hospitality (MH)!

IMG_4328 (Large)
IMG_4340 (Large)

The flight was definitely 5 Stars .. The food was not so good but overall, better than low cost carriers!

IMG_4362 (Large)

An hour before landing and the lights in the cabin made the flight so comfortable … even in Economy Class!

IMG_4224 (Large)

Thank you Malaysia Airlines for providing the Best in Comfort, In-flight services and Safety!
No other airline other than Malaysia Airlines can give me that kind of Quality and Assurance!

My flight to KLAX on MH First Class

My flight to KLAX on MH First Class

Life with the Luxuries of First Class..

Part 1: Information…

Destination: Los Angeles (KLAX/LAX)
Departure via: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (WMKK/KUL)
Est Flight Time: 18 hours
Stops: 1 (Taipei)

Estimated Arrival (LAX): 12.10PM (US Time)

Transportation in Los Angeles: Avis Car Rent-a-Car
Vehicle Type: 4×4 Jeep Cherokee

Average cost per day: $ 38.00

Destinations: Los Angeles City, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Bakersfield, Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, Shopping Outlets, Santa Monica, and Los Angeles International Airport

Part 2: Details ..

My trip to Los Angeles started out with much anticipation as my last trip to LAX was approximately 10 years ago.
So from the preparations to the actual travel day was pretty much exciting and with much anticipation.

I left home at about 7.30am, I left early not so much of anything but because I love airports and aircrafts so I usually have ample time for myself to snap photos and walk around KLIA.

It was time to board the aircraft and I was super duper anxious (sounds like my first trip!!) but I am typically anxious for any trip on board Malaysia Airlines. It’s my preferred airline! So as I walk through boarding gate and through the aero bridge, the sounds of the APU running and the air conditioning units running on the external side of the Aero bridge was making it all the more impossible for me to withstand anymore of it .. alas I got on board and was welcomed by the cabin crews and had the privilege of enjoying the New First Class seats on board my favorite airline…

Me seating on-board the first class seats

Me seating on-board the first class seats

It was a totally different sensation and experience all together. The seats has a full 180 degrees flat bed for me to sleep in comfortably. The Entertainment was great with the huge screen like seating on your computer desk but with total comfort. Nothing better than a excellent glass of Dom Perignon Champagne and watching your favorite movies or listening to your favorite tunes.

After take off, I had a sumptuous  meal with a great desert to end it, it’s none other than Haagen Dazs

After food, I took a nap on the spacious and very comfortable seat beds. After having a good nap, our flight arrived moments later in Taipei, Taiwan. Seen below (Aircraft Docking with the Aero Bridge)

After having to walk around for about an hour plus, I was on my way back on board and this time I managed to get a seat by the window and was surprised to actually found out that the aircraft windows were different, there was no manual sliding of the windows and everything was electrically operated via push buttons which were easily accessible from the seats.

After take off, I had another round of meals and this time the food is Taiwanese and they served really good meals.

Appetizers

Appetizers

I’m always fond of the bread served on board MAS First Class. They are FRESH, WARM, SOFT and Delicious till the last bite and I’m always asking for more. Favorite pastries (Soft-roll, Garlic Bread & Croissant). absolutely the best!

However the crew that took over this flight was horrible. they actually made the flight extremely uneasy .. they were everything they aren’t suppose to do or treat the passengers.

First Class cabin

After a good meal and a couple of glasses of champagne .. I slept through and not very long after i woken up, we were about to land in Los Angeles Int’l Airport. Our approach to KLAX (LAX) took us approximately 20 minutes

Approach to LAX

Approach to LAX

After approach, we landed into LAX and were towed in by the airport tow trucks into the gates. Reason being is because, due to security they require all aircrafts to switch off their engines and allow the airport authorities to tow the aircraft into the gate avoiding any unforeseen circumstances

Towed into Gate 120

Towed into Gate 120

Security here was pretty much stricter than in KLIA itself or even Taipei airport. We had to unfasten our belts, remove our shoes, socks, jackets, metal objects (keys, coins etc), literally everything and worst of all .. they have separate x-ray machines for laptops which I consider extremely inconvenient as I had to remove my laptop and place it into a separate container.

Part 3 … In Los Angeles

After sorting out the customs and luggage, we proceeded to Thrifty where we rented our 4×4 Jeep Cherokee. It was supposed to be a sedan but they ran out of it and forgotten to keep one for us, for that they gave us a SUV for the same price tag.

Jeep SUV

After getting our ride, we then proceeded to check in at the local hotel which is nothing much but a pretty neat place to sleep in for 2 people. Later that night, we drove to Farmers Market in Los Angeles where we had dinner, drinks, chill out and walk around the place. Manager to get my iPod check out and changed to a brand new one as I had problems with my previous iPod and had trouble getting it replaced in M’sia.

There were many families and couples enjoying a good time here… and behind the band, there’s a place called the Cheesecake Factory. All in all .. it was an enjoyable night.

We then proceeded back to our hotel for a good night rest. The next morning, we woke up pretty early as we haven’t really adjusted fully to the time difference. We got some breakfast (eggs, ham, sausages, toast, cereals and fresh milk). then we packed and off we went to Nevada. We drove to Las Vegas .. the drive took us 5 hours instead of 3 1/2 hours as we stopped for Gas, Food, drinks, some needed rest, shopping at the factory outlets.

Las Vegas here I come .. oh yea before that I need Gas. So we stopped for our first gas stop at Shell. It was totally different kind of experience there for me.

Shell Gas Station - Self Served

Shell Gas Station - Self Served

The gas station was practically pump and pay later with all new LCD advertisement screens to entertain you while you pump away. It was a single pump, but gives you the option to choose the type of gasoline you want to pump into your ride. They had what we have here (Unleaded, V-Power, Diesel and of course Regular)

We drove as far as we could .. we were hungry and practically starving so we hit the next stop and got into McDonalds as fast as we could and grab ourselves a bite. I had a Double Quarter Pounder (a lil something extra then what I can get here) It was big, yummy, cheesy and tasty!)

After a great day at Universal Studios, we decided to have dinner at Panda Express .. a local Chinese Take Out and Dine-in Restaurant. Probably one of the best around in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. It’s cheap and tasty.

But for what’s worth, the food at Panda Express was good and it felt like I was in some local hawker stall back in KL (felt that way..for the most part)

after dinner, we proceeded back to our hotel where we had our showers and then drove up to Hollywood BLVD

Well it was good night and because we were leaving for Kuala Lumpur the next day, we decided to call it a night .. we needed to pack our stuff and get ready for a big and long day ahead as our flight was in the evening thus we needed to check out by noon and I needed to return the car by 8.30PM (US time).

After checking out, we decided to check out the local shopping scene .. we drove to Foxhills.

Westfield Shopping Town

The shopping center was nothing like any shopping centers I’ve known in Malaysia. The layout is pretty good and the walk-about is pretty easy. You can practically find just about anything you want easily without much hassle, atleast not like KL Malls which has too many floors and the structure design is just too complicated.

US Malls are usually either single floor or 2-3 at most, at 2-3 floors it is still comparatively easier to navigate yourself to any of the retail outlets as there not many walls .. its just one super big open space building and finding anything is super easy.

after getting what we needed, we decided to have our last meal at a local fast food chain – In and Out Restaurant just outside of LAX beside the Runway (RWY)

IN-N-OUT

2008-12-laxinnout32008-12-laxinnout1The burgers were good .. I mean its not your average run of the mill McDonalds or even Burger King burger. It was nice, fresh beef, fresh cheese and everything about the meal was simply awesome and the taste stayed on till we check in to the airport…

So after having spent like a couple of hours at In-N-Out .. we decided it was time to return the car and check in to LAX

Ok .. car’s returned .. now we hav to take the Thrifty Shuttle Back to LAX

The ride in one of these shuttles was amazing .. it wasn’t brand new or anything but it was definitely comfortable, smell great and the driver was helpful and friendly!

Ok ok .. check it out .. we checked in and guess what? we had the First Class Invitation to MAS Golden Lounge

(note that after our trip .. LAX no longer has a dedicated MAS Lounge for First Class and Business Class Passengers instead it is now shared with other airlines like KLM etc)

So we hanged out here for like an hour to two .. cause there’s practically no shopping in LAX Airport during the night. If it wasn’t for the passengers arriving and departing. The airport would practically be like a dead town with aircrafts parking outside the gate.

Now that we have boarded and have taken off from LAX – Taipei. We had our meal and our Champagne .. check it out

Photo of me and Ai Lee

I met Ai Lee on-board our flight from Los Angeles. She was the best Stewardess I have ever came across in all my flights. At that time she was a Senior Flight Stewardess and now she’s a Inflight Supervisor. I haven’t seen her for sometime now, but I do keep in touch with her regularly. The guy beside me is from Bangsar and he’s also one good customer service guy.

Time passed .. and we soon landed in Taipei. The good thing about having stops during your flight is that you get to stand up and walk-about during your stop overs. bad thing is that you waste more time .. but comparing Pro and Cons, I’d say stop overs are better .. you get to see more stuff and rest those tired butts. When we landed in Taipei, the showers just ended and since it was early in the morning, you could say it was cooling in the airport cause at that time .. it was during Winter season.

Soon it was time to Board our flight MH 95 to Kuala Lumpur and our flight would take us approximately 6 1/2 hours.
We will be landing around 2.30pm approximately (Local Time).

Taipei Airport - Boarding Area

Off we went on-board, got a new set of crew .. got to be on-board the Flight deck (unfortunately couldn’t take photographs).

Malaysian 95 was taxing to the RWY and needed to join the long Que, as there were many flights departing off. After a long wait at the taxi-way. control tower gave the word “Malaysian 95 clear for take-off RWY XX winds 8 knots…..” and the Commander of our flight acknowledge the approval and increase the thrust levers for take off speeds. approaching 165 knots, the commander pull back on the yoke and soon the nose begin to rise .. after clearing the RWY, the commander gave the order “Positive Rate of Climb … Gear Up” Soon after the gear was locked and stowed into the landing gear bays, the pilots adjust the flaps according to the indicated air-speed. as we climb to FL 150, the captain switch off the Seat-Belt signs…and I went back to my seats for the rest of my journey.

After returning back to my seat, I had a nice lunch

Now you’ll be wondering .. Does MH First Class Serve each passengers a box of cherries? hmm?

No of course not! I got a few boxes of cherries from Los Angeles the same day I went to the airport. I got these from Santa Monica Beach where they had a flee market. a typical box of this cherries cost only 5 USD as compared to M’sia which would cost you approximately MYR 30

Ok .. so after a good meal and a box of cherries .. we’re set to Land at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Sepang

It was sure a pleasant flight! Thanks MH for giving me the opportunity to not only travel to where I wanted to go but giving me the opportunity to experience the best flight on board MH Flight from KUL-LAX-KUL!

Thanks!

Cherating Vacation

18 April 2009

Day 1: At 12.00AM on the Saturday early morning, my Dad and I decided to book a villa at the Holiday Villa Cherating, Kuantan. We started driving at about 10.00AM and we had breakfast, then drove east on Karak. Nearing Karak, we decided to have lunch since we were kinda hungry, but I was too full and full of anticipation as well.

After lunch, we continue our drive heading east and about 1.50pm we reached Kuantan .. we could have arrive at Holiday Villa (HV) approximately 2.15pm but we were going about in circles wondering where Cherating was. Cherating had bad signage and we had to stop by the local gas station to ask for directions.

So near yet so far … we were actually closing in on cherating when decided to make a u-turn (thinking that we were lost) .. So off we went back heading into the right direction and man it was another 15 miles. We reached HV at about 2.40pm. Checked in and headed to the Villa’s.

the Villa:

It was Hot, Humid and Sweaty … man the room was even hotter…air cond took ages to cool the room down.
It wasn’t very roomy .. but enough to get comfortable.

3.30PM:

We decided .. heck we’re here. let’s hit the beach and the sea. (I was in for another surprised!)
The waters were kinda clean but the temperature of the water was not what I had in mind or atleast expected it to be. It was warm and Hot, imagine swimming in a massive open sea and the water is warm and with the Sun shinning down on you .. Ho Ho .. not too long, I had to get out or I would die of dehydration…Now that’s bad!

Dinner:

We decided that it was best to try the local dishes and not eat in…
we ordered Shrimp, Crab, Bamboo shoots and it was really fresh and awesome. Unfortunately the bamboo sucks…

After dinner:

We hang out … at Legend Hotel, played a game of Snooker and chill with the breezy nite.

Slept in around 12am….

Day 2 was pretty much the same

For exception I caught a rather huge crayfish … decided to see how it look like since it was hiding in its shell like forever. Took it .. dump it in the swimming pool .. our little friend decided to take a walk beneath the pool… only to die in a couple of minutes, slow and steady death (yea I know i’m so bad …)

Day 3:

Going back seems faster than when we were coming, maybe because I wasn’t driving at my normal speeeds (140KM/H) .. my dad drove like 120KM/H

Got back .. around 3pm and hit the sack …. too tired from the heat and the trip.
